RefNat4LIFE took part in the 2020 edition of Chillventa, a virtual “eSpecial” that took place between 13 – 15 October 2020.
Britta Paetzold of HEAT, Germany, as well as Hans-Josef Brzukalla from the German Association of Organic Processors, Wholesalers, and retailers (BNN e.V.) presented the project goals and gave insights into the organic food retail sector as an interesting market for sustainable refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump (RACHP) technology.
Initial findings of a market study on the current status of RACHP use in the European small food retail sector and its impact on Greenhouse Gas Emissions were presented. Hans-Josef Brzukalla provided details on the German organic food retail sector: the number of stores, the current situation of RACHP equipment used, challenges faced with regard to the switch to climate-friendly alternatives and identified needs in the context of required information on potential technical solutions.

The Refnat4LIFE project
What is the right choice for cooling equipment in times of global warming? Paris Agreement, Montreal Protocol , Kigali Amendment F-Gas Regulation all set the legal requirements for the future.
The EU-funded project Refrigerants, Naturally! For LIFE aims to promote the shift to climate-friendly cooling in Europe’s small food retail sector. Training and information related activities on climate-friendly alternatives for cooling target both the operators of small food stores with a sales area below 1,000 m² as well as the servicing sector for refrigeration, air-conditioning and heat pump equipment.
The project seeks to strengthen the interaction between store owners and manufacturers of cooling equipment to thereby foster the uptake of climate-friendly cooling appliances in the stores.
